Motorola could soon join the growing market for wide foldable smartphones, according to a new report. The company is reportedly working on a wider foldable device that could launch in the coming months.
The move would put Motorola alongside Samsung, Huawei, and Xiaomi in the expanding category. Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold8 in July, while Huawei followed with the Pura X View in August. Xiaomi is also expected to unveil the Xiaomi 18 Fold on September 7.
According to reports, Motorola’s upcoming device will feature a wider folding design. However, the publication has not revealed the phone’s official name or launch date. It did share several design sketches that offer an early look at the possible device.
The sketches show two slightly different versions of the smartphone. Both feature a horizontal rear camera island with three circular cutouts. In one design, a cutout sits outside the camera module, while the other keeps all three inside.
The phone could feature a 3D glass back panel and metal detailing around the camera module. Motorola branding also appears on the hinge, according to the leaked sketches.
Meanwhile, the device is described as having a bezel-less design and an easy-open profile. The sketches also mention an ultra-slim housing and a creaseless folding display. These features could help Motorola compete in the increasingly crowded foldable smartphone market.
The main display appears to include a selfie camera in the top-right corner. The outer screen also has a front-facing camera inside a centered punch-hole cutout.
It remains unclear whether all three circular openings on the rear are camera sensors. One of them could house an LED flash or another sensor. The report does not provide any information about the phone’s camera specifications.
Details about the internal hardware also remain unknown. The report does not mention the chipset, RAM, storage, battery capacity, or software. Motorola already offers the Razr Fold, its first book-style smartphone with a horizontally folding design.
However, the newly leaked device appears to target a different form factor. Its wider design could give Motorola a new option in the premium foldable smartphone segment.
The source says the device will arrive “in the coming months,” although it did not provide a specific launch date. Pricing also remains unclear at this stage.
For comparison, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 starts at $1,899.99 for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage model. The version with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage costs $2,099.99. More information about Motorola’s new wide foldable smartphone will likely emerge closer to its official launch.
