Heavy rain in Lahore delayed the toss for the Pakistan Super League 2026 match between Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United at Gaddafi Stadium today.
The showers have now stopped, and ground staff are working diligently to remove water and clear large puddles, ensuring the pitch and outfield are ready for play.
Match officials are inspecting the entire outfield to determine whether conditions are suitable for play and if the ground can be prepared before the final 9:45 PM cutoff.
If the match starts at 8:00 PM, both sides will play 18 overs each, with full playing conditions maintained, subject to ground and weather assessments by officials.
A match beginning at 8:30 PM will be reduced to 14 overs per side, while a 9:00 PM start will allow only 11 overs per side.
The fixture holds importance for both teams, with former champions Peshawar Zalmi aiming to secure the top position on the points table with another win.
The three-times champions are seeking their first victory in the tournament after losing their opening match, aiming to recover early in the competition standings.
Peshawar Zalmi won their opening match and earned two points, while Islamabad United suffered defeat in their first game and remain without any points.
Zalmi currently sit fourth on the points table, while United are placed seventh, reflecting contrasting starts for both sides in the ongoing tournament.
Historically, both teams have faced each other twenty-six times, with each side winning thirteen matches, leaving their head-to-head record evenly balanced so far.
Zalmi First Game
Peshawar Zalmi chased 215 successfully in their opening game , scoring 218 for five against Rawalpindi Pindiz, securing a five-wicket win in PSL 2026 match at Gaddafi Stadium.
Michael Bracewell and Abdul Samad added 64 runs off 23 balls, turning the match with aggressive hitting after Zalmi required 74 runs from final overs.
Rawalpindi Pindiz posted 214 for four, led by Yasir Khan’s 83, while Mohammad Rizwan contributed 41 during a 125-run opening partnership in innings.
Late hitting from Zalmi batters, including Bracewell and Samad, ensured victory, completing one of the highest successful chases in Pakistan Super League history at venue.
United First Game
Islamabad United suffered a five-wicket defeat after posting 171 for eight, as Multan Sultans chased the target comfortably with more than one over remaining.
United’s batting struggled for momentum despite Mark Chapman’s 40 and Sameer Minhas’s 28, as regular wickets prevented them from setting a more competitive total.
Their bowling effort lacked control early, conceding runs in powerplay overs, which allowed Multan Sultans to build partnerships and dominate the chase effectively.
Islamabad United failed to recover control as Multan batters paced innings well, highlighting shortcomings in both batting depth and bowling execution during the match.
