Australian spinner Adam Zampa has explained his decision to skip IPL 2026 and play in the PSL, citing financial imbalance and time commitment as main reasons.
The 34-year cricketer was signed by Karachi Kings for PKR 4.5 crore after entering the PSL draft, following his absence from the IPL 2026 auction shortlist process.
The leg-break spinner said the IPL financial structure does not always suit his skill set, especially considering the length of the tournament and overall time commitment required.
Adam Zampa stated that he withdrew from IPL consideration after limited interest from franchises, choosing not to remain available for selection at a reduced contract value.
Initially planning a break from cricket, Zampa accepted a late opportunity to join the PSL, saying the decision developed quickly over the past month recently.
He has taken three wickets in his first two PSL matches, contributing to Karachi Kings performances and adapting to the competitive conditions in the tournament.
Zampa praised the PSL standard, noting that several teams feature strong bowling attacks, and highlighted Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi for his recent performances consistently.
He also mentioned his friendship with Haris Rauf, adding that the league includes many high-quality players, with bowling units often comparable to international level competition.
Adam Zampa has taken three wickets in two PSL 2026 matches for Karachi Kings, conceding 37 runs in eight overs at an economy rate of 4.62.
Adam Zampa has played 115 T20 Internationals, taking 147 wickets with best figures of 5/19, maintaining an average of 20.63 and economy rate of 7.37.
In overall T20 cricket, Zampa has featured in 329 matches, claiming 412 wickets with best figures of 6/19, averaging 21.19 with an economy rate of 7.46.
