The Punjab government has approved a major expansion and restructuring of the pharmacy cadre, creating 959 new jobsto strengthen healthcare services and regulatory oversight across the province.
According to the Punjab Finance Department, the total number of pharmacy cadre positions has now reached 1,518following the reorganization. The revised structure includes positions ranging from Grade 17 to Grade 20, with a notable increase in senior roles such as Chief Drug Controllers, Drug Controllers, and Directors Technical.
The restructuring also significantly boosts mid-level and entry-level positions, with the number of Grade 18 Deputy Drug Controller roles increased to 234, alongside the approval of 897 new Grade 17 pharmacist posts. Officials said these additions will play a critical role in supporting drug testing laboratories and improving pharmacy services in hospitals.
Authorities emphasized that the expansion is aimed at strengthening regulatory mechanisms, enhancing drug safety standards, and improving overall healthcare delivery in Punjab. The Finance Department has instructed relevant departments to complete verification and audit requirements promptly to ensure swift implementation of the new structure.
The move comes as part of broader efforts to modernize the healthcare system and ensure better access to quality pharmaceutical services across the province.
