The Sindh government has approved new measures to expand public transport across the province, including the launch of the Peoples Bus Service between Sukkur and Shikarpur in the coming week.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. Officials said the initiative aims to improve connectivity and provide affordable travel options in underserved districts.
In addition to the new route, the government plans to introduce pink scooters for women in Sukkur and Hyderabad to enhance mobility and independence. Ceremonies for distribution are expected to take place soon.
Authorities also approved plans to purchase electric, hybrid, and double-decker buses in the next fiscal year, signaling a shift toward modern and environmentally friendly transport solutions across Sindh, including Karachi.
Officials noted that new bus routes will be added in Karachi to meet increasing demand, while transport services in other districts will be expanded in phases. In Hyderabad, proposed routes include Hyder Chowk to Kohsar and Hyderabad to Tando Allahyar.
Further expansion of the Peoples Bus Service is also planned, with upcoming routes expected between Khairpur–Rohriand Khairpur–Ranipur. Meanwhile, the government is working on launching EV taxi and pink taxi services, with charging infrastructure currently under development. Authorities aim to complete key formalities for the EV taxi project by the end of the month.
Officials said these initiatives reflect Sindh’s broader strategy to modernize public transport, improve accessibility, and promote sustainable mobility across the province.
