Senate Standing Committee Cabinet Secretariat, chaired by Rana Mahmood ul Hassan, was told that multiple oil marketing companies filed fraudulent claims.
The Chairman of Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) told the committee that certain companies had demanded billions of rupees from the government despite holding no oil stock at all.
The Secretary of the Establishment Division informed the committee that the government still owes oil marketing companies between 50 and 55 billion rupees for three weeks.
Committee members recommended that strict legal action be taken against all companies found to have submitted false or misleading claims to the government.
KP gas shortage referred to OGRA
ANP leader and Senator Aimal Wali Khan raised the issue of an ongoing gas shortage in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the same session of the Senate standing committee.
The committee directed the Chairman of OGRA to submit a formal report on gas load-shedding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa within a period of three days.
