Passport issuance services across Pakistan and several overseas missions have remained suspended for over a week due to a persistent technical fault in the national passport system, causing widespread delays for applicants.
According to sources, a system failure at the headquarters of the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports in Pakistan has halted the issuance of both e-passports and machine-readable passports.
Despite ongoing efforts, authorities have so far been unable to resolve the issue, leaving the system non-operational for more than a week.
The disruption has also extended to Pakistani embassies and consulates abroad, where notices have been displayed informing applicants about the suspension of services. Countries affected include Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, various European states, and Turkey.
Officials confirmed that passport processing and issuance remain completely suspended both domestically and at foreign missions until the technical fault is fixed.
The prolonged outage has caused significant inconvenience for travelers, particularly those with urgent travel requirements, and has raised concerns over service reliability and system resilience.
