The Pakistan government is officially considering a proposal to abolish mobile phone taxes. Minister of State for Interior Tariq Fazal Chaudhry shared this major update during a Senate session on Thursday.
Previously, the government imposed these mobile phone taxes due to prevailing circumstances. Chaudhry explicitly acknowledged that this initial measure was not desirable. However, authorities are now actively looking to reverse the decision.
Currently, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is reviewing a specific proposal designed to eliminate these mobile phone taxes. Ultimately, this strategic move aims to provide much-needed relief to consumers across the country.
Furthermore, the government wants to directly facilitate overseas Pakistanis. Right now, mobile phones brought into Pakistan from abroad face an automatic block after a few weeks. This frustrating issue occurs because the existing system requires users to officially register imported devices on the local network.
Consequently, the government is making dedicated efforts to resolve these specific phone usage and network registration issues. By doing so, authorities hope to permanently streamline the process for individuals bringing devices into the country from abroad.
