A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court (Lahore High Court) challenging a significant increase in fees charged by private medical colleges across Punjab.
According to details reported by 24NewsHD TV, Punjab Assembly member Mohammad Ejaz Shafi, the Judicial Activism Panel, and other petitioners have approached the court against the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC)) as well as several private medical institutions.
The petition argues that the steep rise in fees has made medical education increasingly unaffordable for many deserving students, limiting their access to private medical colleges. The petitioners stated that the surge in charges is placing an undue financial burden on families and restricting opportunities for aspiring medical professionals.
They have requested the court to direct PMDC to withdraw the additional charges imposed on students and to take action against private colleges allegedly involved in collecting excessive fees.
The case highlights growing concerns over rising educational costs in Pakistan and their impact on access to professional medical education.
