The National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication is scheduled to meet on June 2 to discuss a range of issues, including proposed amendments to electronic transaction laws, digital skills development initiatives, restructuring within the National Telecommunication Corporation, and flood-related damages to infrastructure operated by the Special Communications Organization.
According to an official notice issued by the National Assembly Secretariat, the meeting will be held at the NTC Headquarters in Islamabad under the chairmanship of the committee’s chairman.
The committee will begin by confirming the minutes of its previous meeting held on February 20, 2026, and reviewing progress on recommendations made during that session.
A major agenda item is the review of The Electronic Transactions (Amendment) Bill, 2026, a government-backed legislative proposal aimed at modernizing Pakistan’s legal framework for electronic transactions and digital services.
Members will also receive a detailed briefing on the Capacity Development and Innovation (CDI) Skills Program and the Cyber Security Hackathon, including updates on project objectives, implementation progress, award status, and expected outcomes.
The committee is further expected to examine the ongoing rightsizing process at NTC. Officials will provide updates on restructuring measures, implementation timelines, progress achieved so far, and the anticipated impact of the reforms.
In addition, the Special Communications Organization will brief lawmakers on extensive damage caused to its telecommunications infrastructure by recent floods. The organization is expected to present details of the losses suffered and outline its recovery and restoration strategy.
The meeting comes as policymakers continue efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s digital ecosystem, improve public-sector efficiency, and enhance the resilience of critical telecommunications infrastructure.
