A policy proposal submitted ahead of the Federal Budget 2026-27 recommends the creation of a Rs. 3 billion National AI Adoption Fund aimed at accelerating the use of artificial intelligence across Pakistan’s business sector.
According to the proposal, eligible small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) would be able to receive grants covering up to 40 percent of their AI implementation costs, with financial assistance capped at Rs. 5 million per company.
The initiative, proposed by AI consulting firm Densight Labs, is expected to support approximately 600 businesses during its initial phase, helping them integrate artificial intelligence technologies into their operations.
The proposed funding program would target key sectors of the economy, including manufacturing, healthcare, financial services, agricultural technology, retail, and logistics.
Under the framework, companies receiving government-backed support would be required to demonstrate measurable outcomes from AI adoption, such as increased productivity, improved operational efficiency, revenue growth, or cost savings.
The proposal argues that Pakistan’s AI challenge extends beyond talent development and requires greater adoption of advanced technologies by local businesses to unlock meaningful economic benefits.
Experts behind the recommendation believe that without widespread AI integration across industries, the country’s growing investment in digital skills and technology training may not translate into substantial economic gains.
The proposed National AI Adoption Fund is part of broader discussions surrounding technology-driven economic growth and digital transformation measures that could feature in the upcoming federal budget.
If approved, the initiative would represent one of Pakistan’s largest government-supported programs focused specifically on accelerating artificial intelligence adoption in the private sector and enhancing the competitiveness of local enterprises.
