Quantum Global Data Centre (QGDC), a company backed by the Gul Ahmed Energy Group, has announced plans to build Pakistan’s largest Tier III data center. The company will invest $230 million in the first phase, while commercial operations are expected to start in 2027.
QGDC said the project could attract up to $600 million in total investment over the next three to four years. The company plans to expand its infrastructure as demand rises for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and digital services across Pakistan.
The announcement came during the Q Summit, where QGDC also signed a strategic partnership agreement with Huawei Pakistan. Under the partnership, both companies will work on developing the data centre and a science and technology park. The initiative aims to support Pakistan’s wider digital transformation plans.
Speaking at the event, QGDC Chairman Danish Iqbal said Pakistan is still at an early stage of AI adoption. However, he noted that the country already spends between $700 million and $800 million every year on AI-related technologies and services.
He said demand for computing power will grow rapidly as more businesses and institutions shift towards digital systems. According to him, Pakistan could become heavily dependent on foreign computing services if local infrastructure does not improve in time.
Danish Iqbal stressed that major investment in local data centers is necessary for economic growth. He added that Pakistan must develop its own advanced computing infrastructure to meet future demand.
He further said demand for local data center capacity is already increasing. Businesses, hospitals, educational institutions, and digital platforms are moving their operations to cloud-based systems at a fast pace. As a result, the new facility is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and support emerging technologies in several sectors of the economy.
