The Punjab government has proposed a major health development package worth more than Rs. 81 billion, under which 24 new health sector projects are planned for the 2026–27 fiscal year.
Officials have allocated Rs. 26.45 billion for the upcoming fiscal year, while the remaining funds will be released in subsequent phases as the projects progress.
The plan prioritizes major hospital developments across the province. One of the key projects includes the proposed Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiology in Gujranwala, with an allocation of Rs. 14 billion. Another significant initiative is the establishment of a Children’s Hospital in Bahawalpur, for which Rs. 23.37 billion has been earmarked.
Other proposed projects include a Maryam Nawaz Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Mianwali, as well as the Kulsoom Nawaz Cancer Hospital in Dera Ghazi Khan, aimed at expanding specialized healthcare facilities in underserved regions.
In Lahore, the government has proposed Rs. 3.5 billion for rebuilding the AVH Block at Mayo Hospital and an additional Rs. 3 billion for upgrading its outpatient department. Bahawal Victoria Hospital will receive Rs. 2.48 billion for an oncology unit, while Sargodha is set to get a new emergency theatre complex.
The development package also includes significant investment in medical equipment upgrades. Around Rs. 2 billion has been allocated for tertiary care hospitals, along with Rs. 1.75 billion for four neuro-cath labs. Additionally, Rs. 1.66 billion will be spent on MRI machines in Lahore and Gujrat, and Rs. 1.65 billion on cardiology equipment in Faisalabad.
Children’s healthcare has also been given priority, with Rs. 1.27 billion allocated for pathology upgrades at the Children’s Hospital. Further funds include Rs. 952.7 million for a pharmacy store in Lahore and Rs. 304.2 million for expansion works in Multan.
The government has also included smaller but important infrastructure upgrades such as neurology units, dentistry improvements, modern diagnostic equipment, and patient facility enhancements across multiple hospitals in Rawalpindi and Lahore. Services Hospital will also see installation of lifts in emergency and gynecology blocks.
To support digital transformation in healthcare, Rs. 100 million each has been allocated for hospital management systems in cardiology institutes in Lahore and Rawalpindi. Additionally, Rs. 500 million has been proposed to complete pending projects and clear outstanding liabilities.
The proposed package reflects a broader push by the provincial government to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, expand specialized treatment facilities, and improve access to quality medical services across Punjab.
