The Punjab government has approved the continuation of School Teaching Interns (STIs) under revised terms, extending the internship programme for teachers appointed during its first and second phases.
Under the approved plan, the new internship period will run from September 16, 2026, to May 31, 2027. Officials have directed that STIs whose previous contracts ended on May 31, 2026, should be issued fresh contracts.
The government has also approved an additional monthly allowance of Rs15,000 for school teaching interns, subject to the revised terms and conditions of the programme.
STIs whose contracts have not been terminated will be allowed to continue their internships under the extended arrangement. However, interns who resigned or left their positions before May 31, 2026, will not qualify for the extension.
The Punjab government has directed all district education authorities to issue new contracts to eligible school teaching interns.
The extension is aimed at allowing already appointed STIs from Phase One and Phase Two to continue serving in schools under the revised internship terms through May 2027.
