The National Economic Council (NEC), chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has approved the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) and provincial development budgets for the fiscal year 2026-27, paving the way for the implementation of major development projects across the country.
The approval came during a high-level NEC meeting attended by chief ministers of all four provinces, senior federal officials, and representatives from regional governments.
During the session, the council reviewed the proposed federal and provincial development allocations and received detailed briefings on the Annual Development Programmes (ADPs) of all provinces.
The NEC also examined the implementation status of the current fiscal year’s Public Sector Development Programme and assessed progress on ongoing development initiatives.
Officials presented updates on projects approved by key planning bodies, including the Central Development Working Party and the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), between April 2025 and March 2026.
The council reviewed monitoring and evaluation reports covering major and mega development projects in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, transport, education, health, and public services.
The meeting was attended by the chief ministers of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan, along with the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Senior officials from finance, planning, and development departments also participated in discussions on budget priorities and project implementation strategies for the upcoming fiscal year.
The approval of the PSDP marks a key step in finalizing Pakistan’s broader budget framework for FY2026-27, with development spending expected to focus on infrastructure, economic growth, social welfare, and public service delivery.
