Punjab education authorities have approved a new “Libraries on Wheels” initiative aimed at promoting reading habits and digital learning among students in government schools across Lahore.
The project, with an estimated cost of Rs. 198 million, will introduce a fleet of mobile libraries equipped with modern educational resources to improve access to books and technology-based learning tools.
Under the plan, 85 electric vehicles will be purchased and converted into mobile libraries. Each vehicle will be equipped with 20 tablets and a large LED screen to facilitate digital and interactive learning activities for students.
According to officials, the mobile libraries will operate on a fixed schedule, with each vehicle visiting one government school daily to provide educational services and learning resources. Charging stations for the electric vehicles will be established within designated schools to support daily operations.
The initiative is expected to enhance students’ access to both traditional books and digital educational content, particularly in schools with limited library facilities.
The District Education Authority said the project is designed to encourage reading culture among students while improving the overall quality of education through the use of modern technology.
Tariq Mahmood stated that the programme will utilize advanced digital tools to provide students with broader access to educational materials, combining conventional library resources with interactive digital content.
Education officials believe the project will help bridge learning gaps, strengthen literacy skills, and create a more engaging learning environment for students in government schools throughout Lahore.
