Pearl Abyss is preparing to expand its massive open-world RPG. The developer recently officially confirmed an upcoming Crimson Desert DLC. Will Powers, Director of Marketing and PR at Pearl Abyss, shared this news during Summer Game Fest 2026. Since its launch in March 2026, the game has received consistent support. However, this upcoming project will offer something notably different.
Updates vs DLC: What to Expect
Until now, Pearl Abyss has released numerous updates for Crimson Desert. These patches regularly delivered bug fixes and fresh features. Therefore, the current game shows massive improvements over the launch version. Yet, Powers emphasized a clear distinction regarding the future. He stated:
What we’ve called everything we’ve done and added to the game right now has been updates.
Consequently, the studio is intentionally calling the new project a DLC. Furthermore, Powers hinted that players should expect a substantial content drop. However, he deliberately separated the term “DLC” from a full “expansion”. Expansions usually deliver massive new areas and major quests. Thus, players should anticipate a significant, but not enormous, addition to the game.
A Long Future for Crimson Desert
Currently, Pearl Abyss has not revealed the specific contents of the DLC. Therefore, the actual direction of the new storyline or gameplay mechanics remains unknown. Despite this, the future of the game looks bright.
Crimson Desert maintains a very high daily player count. Moreover, this steady stream of new content keeps fans engaged and coming back. Recently, the developer promised to support the game for as long as community demand exists. Because the player base remains incredibly strong, fans can expect reliable support for a very long time.
