The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has set aside Rs750 million in its budget to install solar power systems across Union Council streets, municipal buildings, and selected public infrastructure.
Mayor Murtaza Wahab said the initiative aims to cut dependence on conventional electricity, reduce operational costs, and maintain uninterrupted civic services, particularly in areas prone to power outages.
The KMC has already solarised parts of its head office, generating notable savings in electricity expenditure.
Building on those results, the programme is now being expanded to Union Council facilities, municipal offices, and broader public infrastructure across Karachi.
