Apple has unveiled the 2026 iPad mini, bringing an OLED display to its smallest tablet for the first time. The new model also features the latest A20 Pro chip, Wi-Fi 7, and a slimmer design. However, not every storage variant gets the same processor configuration.
The 128GB and 256GB models use a version of the A20 Pro with five CPU cores. In comparison, the 512GB variant gets six CPU cores. According to Apple’s specifications, the lower-storage models also have one fewer efficiency core and half the NPU power. The remaining specifications are identical across all three versions.
iPad mini (2026) Gets an 8.5-inch OLED Display
The new iPad mini features an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with a resolution of 2,316 x 1,512 pixels. However, the screen still runs at a 60Hz refresh rate. Apple has not introduced ProMotion support on its smallest iPad.
The display comes with thinner bezels and offers peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits. Buyers can also choose an optional nano-texture glass finish to reduce glare. Moreover, the tablet supports both the Apple Pencil Pro and the USB-C Apple Pencil.
Apple has also included a 12MP Center Stage camera on the landscape edge. This placement makes video calls more convenient when the tablet is used horizontally.

Another notable change involves the audio system. Apple has moved the dual speakers beneath the display, introducing what it calls an “Acoustic Display” setup. The company says this design delivers stronger bass and higher volume.
Custom tweeters are also hidden between the glass and aluminum enclosure. These components are designed to produce clearer high-frequency sounds.
Thinner Design, Wi-Fi 7, and 5G Connectivity
The 2026 iPad mini measures just 5.4mm thick and weighs 255 grams. Its predecessor measured 6.3mm thick and weighed 297 grams, making the new model both thinner and lighter.
Connectivity has also received an upgrade, with Wi-Fi 7 support based on the 802.11be standard. Cellular models support 5G on sub-6GHz networks through eSIM and Apple’s C2 modem. Additionally, the tablet offers IP67-rated protection against dust and water.
The device includes an 18.9Wh battery that charges through USB-C. Apple claims the battery can reach 50% in 30 minutes with a 35W or higher power adapter. The USB-C port also supports USB 3 data transfer speeds of up to 10Gb/s. The new iPad mini will be available in Midnight and Starlight color options.
