After securing the final legal clearance from the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Pakistan’s biggest telecom consolidation has entered its final phase, with the merged Ufone-Telenor Pakistan entity set to operate under the ‘e&’ brand, replacing two of the country’s most recognized mobile identities, sources revealed.
The IHC approval removes the last legal hurdle following the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s (PTA) issuance of the final No Objection Certificate (NOC), paving the way for the operational integration of the two telecom operators.
Sources exclusive to TechJuice said the new company will abandon both the Ufone and Telenor brands once the integration process is completed and will adopt the e& identity as part of the UAE-based group’s global branding strategy. The move will align Pakistan with e&’s international telecom operations, where the group has been consolidating businesses under a unified global brand.
The rebranding marks the end of the Telenor name in Pakistan after nearly two decades in the market, while Ufone’s standalone identity will also cease as the combined operator transitions to the e& platform.
The merged company will become Pakistan’s second-largest mobile operator with around 70 million subscribers, intensifying competition with market leader Jazz.
Industry officials said the integration will create the country’s largest telecom network infrastructure by combining spectrum assets, towers, transmission systems and digital platforms.
According to sources, the operational integration has now formally begun following the completion of legal and regulatory requirements.
While the merger has become legally effective, customers are unlikely to notice immediate changes.
Existing SIM cards, numbers, packages and mobile services will continue uninterrupted during the transition period, with network integration and migration of digital platforms taking place in phases over the coming months.
Officials said the operational integration is a technically complex exercise involving the consolidation of network infrastructure, IT systems, customer databases, retail operations and digital services. The process is expected to take several weeks before the e& brand is formally launched across Pakistan.
The acquisition of Telenor Pakistan by PTCL Group represents one of the largest transactions in Pakistan’s telecom sector and is expected to significantly reshape the competitive landscape.
