The Punjab government has restored lifetime pension benefits for widows and unmarried daughters of deceased government employees, reversing a previous policy that had capped the benefit at 10 years.
As per media reports, the Finance Department issued a notification implementing the policy after Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved the decision.
The move restores financial support that had been curtailed by the previous provincial government, which had reduced the pension period for widows and heir daughters of deceased employees to just 10 years.
Under the amended rules, widows and unmarried daughters of government employees who die in service will now be eligible to receive pension payments for life.
The pension will be discontinued if a widow remarries. In cases where a deceased employee is survived by more than one widow, the pension amount will be divided equally among them.
The decision was made during a recent cabinet meeting chaired by CM Maryam Nawaz, aimed at ensuring long term economic protection for the families of government employees after their death.
