Pakistani actress Sanam Jung has come forward with complaints about the e-challan system in Karachi, saying she was fined six times for traffic violations within a single month, and that several of the penalties were issued for offences she did not commit.
While sharing a video message on Instagram, Jung said the volume of fines has caused tension at home, noting that her father reacted with anger after learning of the repeated penalties.
The television host acknowledged that the first fine, issued for using her phone while driving, was warranted. The remaining challans, she said, were a different matter entirely.
Among the disputed fines was one issued for not wearing a seatbelt, a claim Jung firmly rejected. She said she has worn a seatbelt consistently since her years living abroad and does not begin driving without first fastening it.
The mismatch between her account and the citation, she said, has left her unable to make sense of how the system is flagging violations that did not take place.
Jung said the repeated fines have taken a toll beyond the financial penalty, adding that she has faced scolding at home over a pattern of citations she maintains she does not deserve.
