The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) collected more than Rs. 476 billion in taxes through electricity bills during FY2025-26, officials informed the Senate Standing Committee on Finance.
According to FBR officials, the total collection included Rs. 351 billion in sales tax and Rs. 124 billion in income taxrecovered from residential, commercial, and industrial electricity consumers across Pakistan.
The committee was informed that tax collections through electricity bills have remained substantial in recent years, amounting to Rs. 562 billion in FY25, Rs. 515 billion in FY24, and Rs. 313 billion in FY23.
Officials said industrial consumers contributed Rs. 66 billion in withholding income tax during FY26, while commercial consumers paid Rs. 52 billion.
Residential non-filers contributed Rs. 4.82 billion, while another Rs. 1.37 billion was collected from household consumers under Section 235A of the Income Tax Ordinance.
Of the Rs. 351 billion collected in sales tax, Rs. 269 billion came from standard sales tax. The FBR also recovered Rs. 55 billion as additional tax, Rs. 55 billion as further tax, and approximately Rs. 16.5 billion from retailers through electricity bills.
The figures were presented before the Senate Standing Committee on Finance as part of a review of the FBR’s revenue collection performance during the last fiscal year.
