The Sindh government has announced plans to launch an electric vehicle (EV) taxi service in September and induct 1,000 EV buses across the province by the end of this year, alongside 50 new double-decker buses set to arrive in Karachi in October.
According to media reports, the decisions were taken during a meeting on transport and mass transit chaired by Sindh Senior Minister for Transport Sharjeel Memon on Tuesday.
Memon confirmed that the EV taxi service would become operational in September, while the 1,000 additional EV buses would be integrated into the public transport network in phases by the end of the year.
The 50 double-decker buses arriving in Karachi in October, he said, would offer citizens improved and modern travel facilities.
The meeting also approved plans to open one section of the mixed-traffic corridor on University Road in September, a move the minister said would significantly ease traffic congestion in the area.
