The federal government has appointed Muhammad Ali Malik as Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) for a five-year term with immediate effect.
According to a notification issued by the Finance Division on Monday, the appointment has been made under Section 11A(2) of the State Bank of Pakistan Act, 1956, as amended in 2022.
The notification, dated August 10, 2026, stated that the federal government had approved Malik’s appointment as Deputy Governor, SBP, for a period of five years.
The notification was issued by the Internal Finance Wing of the Finance Division and signed by Deputy Secretary Amna Shabbir.
The appointment comes as the central bank continues to play a key role in managing Pakistan’s monetary policy, banking sector regulation, foreign exchange market and overall financial stability.
