Apple’s iPhone 18 could receive a major RAM upgrade, according to a new research note from analyst Jeff Pu. The standard model is now expected to feature 12GB of RAM, up from 8GB on the iPhone 17.
Jeff Pu also claims the iPhone 18 will get the new Dynamic Island design. Apple is expected to introduce that design with the iPhone 18 Pro lineup first. The new report differs from a recent prediction by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo previously said both the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e would come with 9GB of RAM. Pu now says the 9GB configuration will be limited to the iPhone 18e.
Both models are expected to use Apple’s A20 chip. The company could also launch the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e at the same time in early 2027. Apple is widely expected to change its iPhone launch schedule next year. The iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Ultra could arrive in September.
Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and iPhone Air 2 may follow in 2027. This would mark a major change from Apple’s current approach to its annual iPhone lineup. The extra RAM could also help Apple support more demanding AI features. This is especially relevant as iOS 27 is expected to bring a smarter and more capable Siri.
