Google is giving users more control over watermarks on AI-generated content. The company is adding an option to remove visible watermarks from images created with Nano Banana. The new setting will appear in Gemini and Flow. Google also plans to bring the option to AI Mode in Google Search soon.
The change goes beyond images. Users will also be able to remove visible watermarks from videos made with Gemini Omni. The same option will apply to songs created with Lyria. There is one major exception. Google says the option will not be available in countries where watermarking is required by law.
However, removing the visible watermark does not make the content completely unmarked. Google will continue using its invisible SynthID watermark and C2PA metadata. These technologies help identify content created with Google’s AI tools. As a result, users can still ask Gemini if an image was generated by AI.
Gemini can check the available signals and confirm whether the image was AI-generated. This gives users a way to verify AI content even when the visible watermark is gone. The move gives creators more flexibility while keeping Google’s AI identification systems in place. It also addresses a common complaint about Nano Banana’s visible watermark.
