The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has begun reinstalling old meters in place of units that were burnt, damaged, or removed for various reasons, sources said.
Laboratory reports have been obtained for single-phase and three-phase meters removed under net metering and net billing arrangements. Meters found to be in working order in these lab reports have been directed to be swapped with meters carrying defective codes.
The installation of old meters is already under way at all relevant LESCO offices, while the replacement of damaged and burnt meters continues in parallel.
Sources said NEPRA regulations require burnt meters to be replaced without charging consumers any additional cost. However, since the budget for purchasing AMI smart meters has not been approved, conventional old meters are being installed for the time being.
LESCO is carrying out the installation and replacement process at the office level, and further action will be taken based on reports concerning meters linked to net metering and net billing.
