Islamabad has been ranked 83rd out of 401 cities on the latest global safety index, ahead of major cities including London, Moscow, Toronto, Glasgow, and Istanbul, the capital police said on Tuesday.
Police also reported a 100 percent detection rate in all homicide cases registered this year, including the Group Captain Asim Tariq murder, the H-9 triple murder, the Amir Awan murder, the Sardar Faheem murder, and the Al-Falah bank robbery.
Property crime fell 27 percent in 2026 compared to 2025, a drop of 1,499 incidents, with notable declines in robbery, dacoity, murder, and vehicle theft.
To strengthen counter-terrorism response, police established SWAT and Delta Force units, a Margalla Trail Patrol Unit, a K-9 explosives detection unit, and a Special Protection Unit for Chinese nationals.
City watchers and night patrols were deployed in commercial areas to deter crime.
Under the Special Initiative Police Station project, stations across Islamabad are being modernised. A Cascade service center opened in the Diplomatic Enclave for diplomats, and a Foreign Media Cell was launched to strengthen the force’s global image.
The Safe City system was upgraded with an AI-based hunch lab, a cybersecurity project, and virtual patrolling to boost surveillance and crime prevention.
Police registered over 14,645 cases and arrested 1,144 drug suspects, 887 court absconders, 1,595 habitual criminals, and 944 proclaimed offenders, recovering weapons from 1,592 suspects. An online women’s police station was launched, and the IGP complaint cell and helpline-1715 were made fully operational.
In 2026, police secured four international conferences, 636 delegations, 191 VVIP movements, 682 protests and rallies, and 16 joint parliamentary sessions.
