Even though The Witcher 3 is now 11 years old, it completely dominated Gamescom 2026. The showcase highlighted the upcoming ‘Songs of the Past’ DLC and a newly announced remaster. Right now, this new content takes up the main public spotlight for developer CD Projekt Red (CDPR). However, the studio also wants to keep fans updated on The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2.
CDPR clearly learned a harsh lesson from the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077. The studio previously suffered because it hid the actual state of the game. Consequently, CDPR now prioritizes transparency. The company regularly shares development resource allocations, and yesterday, they dropped new numbers revealing exactly how many people are working on their upcoming blockbuster titles.
The Witcher 4 Under Development as Cyberpunk 2 Ramps Up Production
The Witcher franchise remains the top priority for the studio. Fans will get ‘The Witcher 3 Remastered’ in 2026. External developer Fool’s Theory is currently leading this project. Next, the ‘Songs of the Past’ DLC will launch in 2027.
Meanwhile, The Witcher 4 maintains a strong development pace with a targeted 2028 release date. Back in April, CDPR dedicated 513 developers to the game. Since then, the studio hired 70 new employees overall. The Witcher 4 team picked up 6 of these new hires, bringing its current workforce to 519 developers.
Interestingly, CDPR plans to release a massive new Witcher trilogy within a highly aggressive six-year window. This timeline places ‘The Witcher 5’ in 2030 and ‘The Witcher 6’ in 2032. It will certainly be interesting to see how the developers iterate on their technology to meet this tight schedule.
Cyberpunk 2 is still in pre-production, but it is slowly ramping up. The sequel team started with 163 developers back in April. They recently absorbed 21 of the new studio hires, bringing their total to 184 active developers.
CDPR adds resources to this project strictly on an as-needed basis. Furthermore, the sequel will definitely launch after The Witcher 4. This timeline likely places the Cyberpunk 2 release window somewhere between 2029 and 2031.
Future Projects: Sirius & Hadar
At the end of April, CDPR reported a total of 975 active developers working across various needs and services. Beyond their two flagship franchises, the studio is quietly working on two distinct titles positioned far out in the release schedule.
First, ‘Project Sirius’ is a Witcher 3 multiplayer spin-off. CDPR is co-developing this game alongside Molasses Flood. Notably, recent reports of layoffs at Molasses Flood do not reflect in CDPR’s current resource graphs.
Second, ‘Project Hadar’ represents a brand-new, original IP owned entirely by CDPR. The game remains in very early development, and the studio has kept all details tightly under wraps. Both ‘Sirius’ and ‘Hadar’ sit way further out in the pipeline, and their smaller resource allocations reflect that reality.
