Xiaomi has unveiled the Xiaomi 18 Fold, its first wide-style foldable smartphone. The launch comes just two days before Apple’s expected iPhone Ultra announcement. Xiaomi’s new device shares a similar form factor with Apple’s rumored foldable. It also comes in a cherry red color option, which has also been rumored for Apple’s upcoming device.
However, the Xiaomi 18 Fold takes a very different approach under the hood. The phone runs on Xiaomi’s self-developed Xring O3 SoC. It comes with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and offers 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage. The 16GB RAM models use LPDDR6 memory, while the other versions feature LPDDR5X RAM.
The foldable device features a 7.58-inch main display with a 2364×1672 resolution. Meanwhile, the outer cover display measures 5.38 inches and offers a 1168×1712 resolution. Both screens support a 120Hz refresh rate and a 2:1 aspect ratio. They can also reach up to 4,000 nits of peak brightness.
Xiaomi has protected the cover display with its Shield Glass 3.0. The large internal screen provides more room for multitasking and media consumption. The wide-style design also gives the device a different look from traditional book-style foldables.
On the camera front, the Xiaomi 18 Fold features a 200MP main camera. It uses Samsung’s ISOCELL HP5 1/1.56-inch type sensor. The phone also includes a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with an 80mm focal length. It supports 3.5x optical zoom and 160mm 7x in-sensor “lossless” zoom.
The rear camera setup also includes a 50MP ultrawide camera. Xiaomi has added a 16MP selfie camera to each display. As a result, users get dedicated front cameras whether the phone is folded or unfolded.
Power comes from a large 6,000 mAh battery with 20% silicon content. The Xiaomi 18 Fold supports up to 67W wired charging. It also supports 50W wireless charging, offering faster charging options for a device of this size.
The smartphone runs HyperOS 4 based on Android 17. It features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner built into the power button. Xiaomi has also included stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support.
The Xiaomi 18 Fold comes in black, red, and “Warm Gold” colors. Xiaomi also offers a ceramic special edition. When folded, the phone measures 117.8 x 83.6 x 10.68 mm. When unfolded, it measures 117.8 x 163.8 x 5.02 mm and weighs 219g.
Xiaomi has launched several storage and RAM configurations in China. The 12GB/256GB model costs CNY 10,999 ($1,638). Meanwhile, the 12GB/512GB version is priced at CNY 11,999 ($1,787).
The 16GB/512GB model costs CNY 12,999 ($1,936). The higher-end 16GB/1TB version is priced at CNY 14,999 ($2,234). Xiaomi’s ceramic special edition includes 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. It carries a price tag of CNY 15,999 ($2,383).
Unfortunately, Xiaomi has no plans to launch the 18 Fold outside China. That means the company’s first wide-style foldable will remain exclusive to its home market. Still, the launch adds another major competitor to the growing premium foldable smartphone market.
