The federal government has announced another increase in the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD), with the new rates taking effect amid continued daily revisions in petroleum prices.
According to the latest update from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the price of petrol has increased by Rs. 5.58 per litre, reaching Rs. 364.35 per litre.
The price of high-speed diesel has also increased by Rs. 4.18 per litre, taking its price to Rs. 385.95 per litre.
The latest increase comes just one day after another major hike. On Monday, petrol prices were increased by Rs. 12.90 per litre to Rs. 358.77, while diesel prices rose by Rs. 3.72 to Rs. 381.77 per litre.
Fuel Prices Rise Sharply Under Daily Pricing System
Since the introduction of daily fuel price revisions, petroleum prices have recorded a significant overall increase.
Petrol has increased by Rs. 53.05 per litre, while diesel has become Rs. 56.44 per litre more expensive compared with the rates before the daily pricing system was introduced.
The latest prices are:
| Date | Petrol | Diesel |
|---|---|---|
| 8 September | Rs. 364.35 | Rs. 385.95 |
| 7 September | Rs. 358.77 | Rs. 381.77 |
| 4 September | Rs. 345.87 | Rs. 378.05 |
| 3 September | Rs. 349.00 | Rs. 374.31 |
| 2 September | Rs. 346.16 | Rs. 372.03 |
| 1 September | Rs. 343.87 | Rs. 370.92 |
| 31 August | Rs. 342.79 | Rs. 370.41 |
Higher diesel prices could also increase freight and logistics expenses, potentially affecting the cost of goods transported across the country.
Goods transporters have already announced a 5% increase in freight charges following the recent rise in petroleum prices and have warned that unresolved demands could lead to another nationwide strike.
With fuel prices continuing to be revised frequently, consumers and businesses are likely to remain under pressure from higher transportation and operating costs.
