Ireland has expanded its Critical Skills Occupation List by adding six new professions, creating more employment opportunities for skilled foreign workers seeking jobs in the country.
According to the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, the updated list includes agronomists, construction planners and schedulers, community eye care professionals, intellectual property professionals, geospatial surveyors, and riggers in the games industry. The additions aim to address labour shortages in agriculture, healthcare, construction, surveying, technology and gaming.
The move reflects Ireland’s growing demand for skilled professionals in key industries, particularly housing and infrastructure development, healthcare services and interactive entertainment. The Critical Skills Employment Permit programme allows eligible foreign workers to secure employment in occupations facing skills shortages.
Qualified workers may also benefit from pathways to long-term residency and opportunities to bring their families to Ireland, subject to the programme’s eligibility requirements.
