Balochistan Communications and Works Department has abolished 5,000 unnecessary posts as part of a major restructuring drive, according to media reports.
The eliminated positions spanned 74 different categories within the department. Officials said the posts had become redundant due to the adoption of modern technology and machinery, rendering many traditional roles unnecessary.
The department is also in the process of abolishing another 1,500 redundant posts, taking the total number of positions being phased out to 6,500.
Officials said the restructuring aims to align the administrative and financial framework of the department with modern requirements. Retaining unnecessary positions, they noted, would have added to the long-term financial burden through salaries, pensions, and other benefits.
Despite the large-scale downsizing, the department has assured that the rights of the employees will not be compromised. Staff who have completed 30 years of service will remain entitled to full retirement benefits, while all other employees’ dues will be settled in accordance with existing rules and regulations.
