The All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced a 7% increase in freight rates following a sharp rise in fuel prices, citing higher operating costs across the goods transport sector.
Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan said diesel prices have increased by Rs. 26.88 per liter over the past seven days, while petrol prices have risen by Rs. 20 per liter during the same period. He said the surge in fuel costs has made it difficult for transporters to continue operating at existing freight rates.
The latest increase in freight charges could raise transportation costs for food, industrial products, and other essential goods across the country. Higher logistics costs may also put additional pressure on commodity prices.
The announcement follows the government’s latest diesel price increase of Rs. 3.47 per liter, taking the price to Rs. 424.92 per liter. Transporters have cited the continued rise in fuel prices as a key reason for revising freight rates.
