Engro Holdings Limited has officially announced a major leadership transition today. The Board of Directors of Engro Corporation Limited approved Junaid Iqbal as the next President and CEO. He will succeed the current leader, Ahsan Zafar Syed.
Currently, Iqbal serves as the Advisor to the CEO of Engro Holdings. Furthermore, he will officially assume his new role as President and CEO of Engro Corporation in April 2027. This timeline aligns perfectly with the completion of Syed’s ongoing term.
Junaid Iqbal to Drive Next Phase of Growth at Engro Corporation
Over the past six decades, Engro built a powerful industrial business footprint. The company developed deep corporate capabilities in engineering, project development, and execution. Consequently, these strengths remain the absolute foundation of its success.
Moving forward, Engro plans to create new platforms for business growth. The company wants to generate long-term value, attract fresh capital, and address pressing economic needs. Therefore, Iqbal’s professional background matches this new ambition. Throughout his career, he has built, scaled, and transformed businesses across the technology, finance, and media sectors in complex environments.
A Track Record of Platform Building
Previously, Iqbal held prominent leadership roles at Careem. He aggressively scaled the company’s Pakistan business. Later, he led the Saudi Arabian market. Ultimately, he served as the Managing Director and Global Head of Careem Pay.
Before his time at Careem, Iqbal worked as the CEO of Elixir Securities. During this tenure, he helped reposition the financial firm. Moreover, he managed major privatization transactions. This included the government’s $1 billion sale of a 40 percent stake in HBL. As a result, his strong experience in platform building, capital allocation, and partnership development directly complements Engro’s existing strengths.
Seamless Transition & Ahsan Zafar’s Legacy
Meanwhile, Engro’s Board of Directors expressed deep gratitude to Ahsan Zafar Syed for his exceptional contributions. Under his clear leadership, Engro Corporation consistently ranked among the top companies on the Pakistan Stock Exchange. Additionally, Syed achieved significant corporate milestones during his tenure. These milestones include the Supplemental Implementation Agreement for EVTL, the reintegration of thermal assets, and key transactions involving the Deodar and EPCL deals.
Over the coming months, Engro will execute a structured and seamless leadership transition. Iqbal will engage closely with Engro’s businesses and operations. This process will help him gain a deep understanding of the organization. Additionally, he will contribute to key strategic priorities under Syed’s mentorship before taking charge.
Finally, upon finishing his term in April 2027, Syed will step into a new role. He will become Counsel to the Chairman of Engro Holdings. This move ensures the company will continue benefiting from his vast institutional wisdom.
