Xiaomi has revealed more details about the camera systems on its upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max smartphones. The company also shared camera samples ahead of their China launch tomorrow. In separate Weibo posts, Xiaomi detailed the hardware behind the dual 200MP rear camera setup. Both phones will use a 200MP Leica primary camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor.
The main camera will be joined by a 200MP periscope telephoto camera. It uses a larger 1/1.56-inch sensor and is designed for both zoom and close-up photography. The telephoto camera has an f/2.4 aperture and supports 3.2x optical zoom. It also offers a 75mm native focal length and can focus on subjects from as close as 12cm.
Xiaomi says the telephoto camera on the 18 Pro can capture 280% more light than the camera on the 17 Pro. The 18 Pro Max is claimed to offer 83% higher light intake than the 17 Pro Max. The company has also posted several camera samples from the new main and telephoto cameras. The images offer an early look at the photography capabilities of the upcoming phones.
Beyond the cameras, the Xiaomi 18 Pro series will bring several other hardware upgrades. Both models will feature an upgraded rear display and a hardware-level privacy display. The phones will also pack larger batteries than their predecessors. Xiaomi is expected to reveal the remaining specifications during the launch event in China tomorrow.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are also expected to use Qualcomm’s yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset. More details should be confirmed when the phones are officially unveiled.
