Mojang finally broke a 14-year streak. The studio officially unveiled “The Sift”, the first new Minecraft dimension in over a decade. They announced this massive update during the recent Minecraft LIVE September 2026 event. As a result, The Sift will soon join the Overworld, the Nether, and the End as the game’s fourth accessible realm.
Players will not have to wait long for a sneak peek. The Sift actually debuts in ‘Minecraft Dungeons 2’, which launches in just two days on September 29 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Switch, and Switch 2. However, mainline players must wait a bit longer. Mojang will add the dimension to both Java and Bedrock Editions in 2027.
What to Expect Inside the New Minecraft Dimension
Mojang describes the vanilla version of the Sift as a vibrant mix of neon blue and pink. Furthermore, the developer calls the environment beautiful and “teeming with souls”. Mojang also released a brief teaser trailer. This footage showed off the dimension’s new mascot: the Blub. This creature resembles a light blue rabbit and will act as the face of the Sift, much like the Enderman does for the End.

Meanwhile, the version appearing in Minecraft Dungeons 2 looks quite different. That specific realm features red and orange stone, green vegetation, sculk, and ichor. According to the spin-off’s lore, Illagers have completely overrun the dimension. They invaded the area specifically to harvest its numerous souls.
“The Sift” Introduces New Mobs & Fearsome Bosses
Minecraft Dungeons 2 will pack the Sift with dangerous enemies. Players will encounter several formidable bosses. These include the Monarchs, the Harmonizer, and the Sculk Monstrosity.
Additionally, the spin-off introduces a massive roster of regular mobs. Adventurers will face the Crested Sentinel, Echo Golem, Groobler Sentinel, Licker, Nester, Sculk Mage, Sculk Slasher, Seedling, Singer, Sprout, and Trill. Right now, Mojang has not confirmed how many of these specific enemies will cross over into the vanilla Minecraft release next year.
A Massive Roadmap for 2027
Minecraft remains an unstoppable cultural juggernaut. Currently, the franchise boasts over 425 million copies sold. It easily holds the title of the best-selling game of all time. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma recently revealed a staggering statistic to back this up. On an average day, more than 300,000 people play Minecraft for the very first time.
Naturally, Mojang is capitalizing on this momentum. Beyond the Sift, the recent LIVE event revealed more upcoming content. The next drop will introduce an “Ice Cave” area and a new “Frozen Zombie” variant.
Next year looks even bigger. Chessington World of Adventures Resort will officially open a Minecraft World Hotel and an “Escape the Nether” rollercoaster. Finally, the sequel film, ‘A Minecraft Movie Squared’, will also hit theaters in 2027.
