Lahore Traffic Police impounded a motorcycle on Walton Road after a check showed it had accumulated 113 e-challans, and imposed a fine of Rs190,000 on it.
Patrolling officers Ghulam Arabi and Tanveer stopped the motorcycle and reviewed its e-challan record. It showed 89 violations for riding without a helmet and 24 for breaking traffic signals. The motorcycle was shifted to Factory Area police station and locked up.
The action forms part of a zero-tolerance policy on traffic enforcement and regulation being followed by the department.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdur Rahim Shirazi said the crackdown on e-challan and digital challan defaulters would continue to maintain orderly traffic. He added that action was also being taken against those tampering with number plates, without any discrimination.
The CTO urged citizens to follow traffic laws to avoid e-challans.
Traffic police have also written to government departments with outstanding e-challans, asking them to clear their dues. In Lahore, e-challans are being issued through Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras for more than 20 types of violations.
