Recently, Silent Hill: Townfall received a highly anticipated update. Developer Screen Burn officially released Patch 1.4.0. Consequently, players stuck on the brutal late-game sections finally have a clear path forward. The developers directly addressed heavy fan feedback. They successfully nerfed the game’s most frustrating puzzle and simultaneously toned down its most aggressive enemy.
Fixing the Remote Systems Control Puzzle & Nerfing The Weight
Many players absolutely despised the Remote Systems Control puzzle. Previously, it forced players to press buttons featuring complex symbols and numbers without providing any major hints. Furthermore, an overwhelmingly powerful enemy constantly stalked players during this exact sequence. Now, Patch 1.4.0 actively fixes this late-game bottleneck.
Screen Burn added a collectible manual for the console. Players can now scan this manual and view it for quick reference while operating the system. Additionally, the developers updated the pipe layout for the “Aux Line” puzzle to heavily improve visual clarity.
The Weight lurked relentlessly near the puzzle objective. Now, this terrifying enemy operates much differently. First, The Weight no longer instantly kills players with a grab attack on Story Mode or Normal difficulty. Instead, these grabs strictly deal heavy damage.
Moreover, the enemy will no longer camp in front of player objectives for extended periods. It also searches the exact same locations much less frequently. Finally, developers adjusted its hunting behaviors so it does not track players aggressively. Players wanting the original brutal challenge can still simply select a higher difficulty.
General Combat, AI Improvements, Crucial Bug Fixes & Technical Polish
Screen Burn also tweaked the standard enemy AI across the board. Enemies now show significantly less sensitivity to the sounds of running footsteps, firing guns, and players entering hiding spaces.
In melee combat, standard enemies counterattack much less frequently. Furthermore, players get more time to react immediately after escaping a grapple. Additionally, standard enemies will completely stop attempting to grapple players who actively block with a melee weapon. However, The Weight ignores this blocking rule entirely.
Patch 1.4.0 irons out several critical bugs. Primarily, it fixes a severe progress-blocking issue in Part 5 where glass prevented players from entering the CEG Tower. It also corrects a bug in Part 5 where Projector Slides incorrectly displayed the identical name.
Additionally, the development team patched multiple out-of-bounds exploits that allowed players to break the game’s sequence. Ultrawide monitor users can now finally see the Letterbox option in the settings. Meanwhile, AZERTY keyboard users received their missing key bindings. Ultimately, the patch significantly improves overall frame pacing and reduces frustrating streaming stutters.
Silent Hill: Townfall Is A Bold Direction for the Franchise
Silent Hill: Townfall and Silent Hill f both took massive risks for the long-standing survival horror franchise. Both titles successfully take players back to the past. Furthermore, Townfall uses a first-person perspective, whereas the franchise typically utilizes a third-person view. So far, Konami continues to find major success with these bold new entries.
