PlayStation fans have waited years for this moment. Now, an independent developer has delivered. As of yesterday, October 12, an unofficial fan-made PC port of ‘God of War 3 Remastered’ became available. This project allows Kratos’ complete Greek finale to run natively on Windows. Consequently, you can play the entire game from the opening sequence to the final battle.
This God of War 3 Remastered PC Port Is NOT Your Average Emulator
Developer Felipe Prado announced this massive achievement on Reddit. Furthermore, he explained that this port works differently than traditional emulation. Over the years, PC players have relied on standard emulators. However, this project takes a completely new approach.

The PS4 uses an x86-64 CPU architecture. Modern PCs use this exact same architecture. Therefore, the original game executable runs directly on the PC processor. Meanwhile, a custom runtime replaces PlayStation system libraries with Windows ones. Additionally, the project uses a modified version of shadPS4’s video core. This translates PS4 GPU commands into Vulkan. Prado compares this method to the Wine or Proton translation layers found in SteamOS. Essentially, the software teaches the PlayStation game how to talk directly to Windows.
Performance, Features & How to Play
Currently, the project remains in the alpha stage. As a result, players should expect some bugs. For example, textures struggle at resolutions higher than 1080p. Despite this, performance looks incredibly promising. Prado reports an average of 144 FPS at 1080p using an AMD RX 6700 XT graphics card.
The developer packed the port with PC-focused features. Players get a 240 FPS engine patch, background shader caching, and optional FSR 1. Moreover, the project supports keyboard and mouse controls, control remapping, and mods. Saves, audio, and cinematics all work properly.
However, you cannot simply download and play the game. The project does not distribute the God of War 3 Remastered software itself. Instead, players must provide their own copy of the PS4 game files.
Sony’s Shifting PC Strategy
This impressive feat joins a growing wave of sophisticated PC conversions. Recently, fan efforts have targeted games like Bloodborne, Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Lost Odyssey, and P.T. These projects bypass publishers to modernize aging console games.
Meanwhile, Sony’s official plans look entirely different. Earlier in 2026, Santa Monica Studio confirmed a remake for the original God of War trilogy. However, that project remains in early development. Sony will also release the newly revealed God of War Laufey exclusively on PS5 on February 16, 2027. Consequently, players should not expect an official PC version. Reports indicate Sony is backing away from PC ports for its single-player games altogether. Therefore, fan-made projects like this remain the only way to experience Kratos’ original battles on a modern PC.
