Customers of the Bank of Punjab (BOP) have been struggling with major disruptions to digital banking services for several days, with many reporting that the mobile app, internet banking, and related channels remain unreliable or completely inaccessible.
The bank has linked the problems to system upgrades and migration work for the launch of its new digiBOP Mobile App. Official communications from BOP stated that essential system enhancements were carried out over the weekend, with the new app scheduled to go live on Monday, October 12, 2026. Text messages sent to some customers indicated that digital channels, including Raast, Inter-Bank Funds Transfer (IBFT), and debit cards, would remain temporarily unavailable until 9 a.m. on that date.
However, large numbers of users continued to report issues well after the announced window. Common complaints include:
- Inability to log into the old BOP Digi app
- Failure of the new digiBOP (or digiBOP Beta) app, frequently showing errors such as “Device Security Verification Could Not Be Completed”
- Problems with OTP delivery and account migration
- Delayed or non-functional transactions
- Limited or unavailable customer support responses
The new digiBOP app was released on the Google Play Store, with BOP stating that the iOS version would follow later. Many Android users who downloaded it still could not complete login or carry out basic banking tasks. iPhone users reported being left without a working mobile option.
BOP has issued multiple public apologies on its official social media channels, attributing the disruption to “ongoing system upgrades and migration activities” intended to deliver a smoother experience with the new app. The bank has urged customers to remain patient and follow official channels for updates.
A report published by Minute Mirror on October 14 confirmed widespread customer complaints and noted that a bank representative acknowledged the weekend disruption while promoting the upcoming digiBOP app. ATMs were said to be functioning in at least some locations, but digital channels remained the primary point of failure for many account holders.
Customers have expressed strong frustration over the length of the outage, the lack of clear advance notice in some cases, and the difficulty of reaching effective support. Several reported being unable to transfer salaries, pay bills, or access funds for several days.
As of October 14, the situation appeared ongoing for a significant number of users, with the bank continuing to ask for patience while technical teams work to resolve remaining issues related to the app migration.
The Bank of Punjab operates one of the larger branch networks in the country. Extended digital outages of this nature highlight the operational risks associated with major system migrations and the importance of clear communication and contingency planning for customers who rely on mobile and online banking for daily transactions.
