The Punjab Cabinet has approved the recruitment of intelligence operators in BS-7 for the Special Branch, though the Revenue Department has recommended fewer posts than the 113 originally proposed.
As per media reports, the Revenue Department recommended hiring only 61 operators, citing a shortage of funds. It based the decision on the expenditure involved and the cost of future pension payments.
The Chief Secretary of Punjab endorsed the Revenue Department’s recommendation. A summary on the matter has been forwarded to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for approval.
On the directive of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the recruitment proposal was placed before the provincial cabinet. The cabinet approved it via circulation on September 16, 2026.
