Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6 is officially launching next month. Gamers have been waiting for 13 years since GTA 5 hit shelves. Recently, a YouTuber recreated the latest GTA 6 trailer in GTA 5. He built the entire video beat-for-beat using the aging GTA 5 engine. Consequently, the remake explicitly highlights the massive graphical and technological gap between the two titles.
Michael & Amanda Step In
The YouTuber cleverly cast GTA 5’s Michael and Amanda as stand-ins. They perfectly replaced GTA 6 protagonists Jason and Lucia for the video. Meanwhile, Los Santos served as a rough approximation for Vice City.

Close-up shots in the GTA 5 remake expose a harsh reality. The 2013 game features glaringly low-resolution textures that fail to hold up today. Furthermore, the overall lighting feels significantly less realistic. As a result, the character models look entirely flat when you compare them to the stunning visuals of GTA 6. However, the water and reflective surfaces in GTA 5 still look surprisingly decent.
GTA 6 Trailer in GTA 5 Unveils A Generational Visual Jump
Naturally, the gaming community reacted strongly to the footage. Viewers equate this visual leap to the massive jump players experienced going from GTA: San Andreas to GTA 5.
Currently, gamers are scrutinizing every detail because the new title is only one month away. Consequently, GTA 6 is facing backlash regarding a 30 FPS cap on consoles at launch. Interestingly, these complaints ignore important historical context. Rockstar also launched GTA 5 with a 30 FPS cap in 2013. Back then, players universally praised the game for its groundbreaking visuals.
Eventually, an expected PC release will likely remove this frame rate cap. Therefore, modern gaming rigs will soon maximize the game’s incredible visual fidelity and performance.
