JazzCash users across Pakistan are receiving repeated deposits of Rs 5 and Rs 20 in their mobile wallets. The payments are increasing customers’ balances, with several users reporting multiple credits.
These deposits are refunds of service charges previously collected from customers for paying utility bills through JazzCash. The refunds are being issued following directions from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The development has also sparked discussions on social media. Some users initially linked the payments to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and investigations into online gambling platforms. They suggested that people who lost money on gambling websites were receiving their funds back.
However, these claims overlook the actual reason behind the payments. The deposits relate to previously collected utility bill payment charges being returned to customers.
JazzCash has historically charged different fees based on the number of bills paid each month. Customers were charged Rs 5 for the first three payments, Rs 20 for the fourth to ninth payments, and Rs 30 for subsequent payments.
These charges were listed in JazzCash’s schedule of charges. The company also confirms that standard service fees apply to utility bill payments.
The latest refunds mean customers are receiving money that was previously deducted from their wallets as service charges. Depending on their earlier transactions, some users may receive several small payments.
