Parachinar Airport is set to reopen after remaining closed for years, following the completion of upgrade work and successful trial operations.
The restoration was carried out through joint efforts of the Pakistan Army, Frontier Works Organization, and Pakistan Airports Authority, marking a major step toward reviving air connectivity in the region.
Officials said the upgrade work has brought the airport to an advanced stage of operational readiness. On April 26, Pakistan Army Aviation conducted landing and takeoff trials to assess runway performance, construction quality, and overall preparedness.
Authorities confirmed six successful landing and takeoff trials were completed, with the runway meeting required safety and professional standards. Performance was also evaluated under multiple operational scenarios.
Following the successful trials, officials said the airport is moving closer to reopening, which is expected to improve regional connectivity, strengthen emergency response capabilities, and support economic activity in Parachinar and surrounding areas.
