Airsial, the Sialkot-based private carrier, has overtaken AirBlue to become the second-largest airline in Pakistan by fleet size after taking delivery of its 12th aircraft.
The new Airbus A320 arrived at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi late Tuesday night following an international ferry flight. The aircraft will be deployed across the domestic and international network.
The induction cements Airsial’s position behind national carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), which continues to lead the industry with 32 aircraft. AirBlue now trails in third place with 11 planes, while SouthAir operates a smaller fleet of two ATR turboprops, placing it fifth among domestic operators.
A spokesperson said management has approved plans to bring in 18 additional aircraft, citing an expanding route network as the driver behind the decision. The airline has already finalized an agreement with a foreign aviation company to acquire 19 planes, as part of a broader push to strengthen its market position.
Officials added that the expansion is expected to generate new employment opportunities as the fleet and operations scale up in the coming months.
