The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has officially allotted 8.33 acres of prime land at Shakarparian to the Department of Archaeology and Museums for the construction of the Islamabad Museum. The process of taking possession from CDA is currently underway, signaling a major step forward in the establishment of a national-level museum in the federal capital. During a recent meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on National Heritage and Culture, chaired by MNA Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar, officials emphasized the need for timely allocation of funds. The committee recommended that the Ministry of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives release necessary budgetary support to the National Heritage and Culture Division for the 2026–27 fiscal year to ensure the museum project progresses without delay. The Islamabad Museum aims to showcase Pakistan’s rich cultural and historical heritage, providing citizens and visitors with an educational and cultural hub in the capital. The initiative is part of a broader government effort to strengthen the country’s cultural infrastructure and promote national heritage awareness. “The development of a national museum in Islamabad is not just about preserving our history it is about creating a cultural landmark for generations to come,” the committee noted. Additionally, the committee reviewed the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) (Amendment) Bill, 2025, approving all proposed amendments and recommending the bill for passage in the National Assembly. This reflects continued government focus on preserving and promoting Pakistan’s traditional arts, crafts, and cultural identity. The Shakarparian location, a scenic area known for its historical and recreational significance, provides an ideal site for the museum, offering accessibility and visibility to the public while complementing existing cultural landmarks in Islamabad. The Islamabad Museum project is expected to become a flagship cultural institution, combining modern exhibition facilities with interactive experiences that highlight Pakistan’s archaeological treasures, folk heritage, and artistic achievements.
