Punjab has declared May 1 a public holiday for Labour Day, issuing an official notification confirming province‑wide closure of offices and educational institutions.
The notification confirmed that government offices, private offices, and educational institutions across Punjab, including Lahore, will remain closed on Friday, May 1.
The Friday holiday combined with the regular Saturday and Sunday weekend will create an extended break lasting until the start of the following week.
Pakistan observes Labour Day on 1 May every year alongside most of the world, marking the occasion to recognise the contributions and rights of workers.
Earlier this week, the provincial government of Sindh also announced a public holiday on May 1 to mark International Labor Day which honors the historic Chicago labor movement.
The State Bank of Pakistan has separately issued a notification declaring 1 May a banking holiday, meaning all banks nationwide will be closed on Friday.
