Apple is reportedly preparing to deliver one of its most substantial iPad software overhauls in recent memory with the upcoming release of iPadOS 19. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the update will mark a major step toward turning the iPad into a more desktop-class device, bringing macOS-inspired productivity and multitasking tools to the forefront.

In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Gurman noted, “I’m told that this year’s upgrade will focus on productivity, multitasking, and app window management — with an eye on the device operating more like a Mac.” This aligns with the long-standing wish list of power users who have pushed for Apple to unlock more of the iPad’s hardware potential, especially on Pro models powered by M-series chips.

While iPadOS 19 details are still limited, the buzz surrounding iOS 19 offers some insight into Apple’s broader vision for its ecosystem. iOS 19 is rumored to introduce a redesigned interface inspired by visionOS, bringing a more unified aesthetic across iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Reports suggest deeper personalisation, enhanced Focus Modes integration within Control Center, expanded widget options, and improved system-wide organisation through context-aware formatting.

The upcoming WWDC 2025 event will feature updates for iOS and iPadOS while spotlighting Apple Intelligence as the company’s primary AI initiative. Apple intends to introduce AI tools from WWDC 2024 staging with stronger development but a more focused delivery later at WWDC 2025 that addresses previous deployment issues.

There’s even speculation that Apple may offer a sneak peek at a new iPhone model, tentatively dubbed the iPhone 17 Air, though this remains unconfirmed.

iPadOS 19 Launch Date

The official reveal of iPadOS 19 is expected at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, which the company has confirmed will take place from June 9 to June 13, and will be made accessible to developers for testing before Apple releases a public beta later this summer. The annual developer conference will again be held online, with streamed keynotes, in-depth video sessions, and live digital labs for developers to engage directly with Apple engineers and designers.
